In the spring of 2015, Frattalone was selected by Ryan Companies US, Inc. as the civil site contractor for the new Amazon Fulfillment Center to be constructed in Shakopee, MN. Ryan was committed to a very tight 13 month completion schedule and looked to Frattalone for creative solutions to some tough conditions on the 68 acre site that would accelerate the schedule, reduce overall costs and ensure that the project not be delayed by poor weather conditions. Working with Ryan and geotechnical engineers at Braun Intertec, Frattalone developed a plan to utilize a higher quality, cleaner sand topped off with crushed aggregate under the building and maximize the use of onsite materials including highly fractured shot rock throughout site embankment areas. Construction started in late June and these solutions allowed Frattalone to turn over the first portion of the 855,000 Square foot building pad for Ryan to start foundation work after just 18 days of site grading. Frattalone also developed GPS models for the entire project that allowed crews to utilize machine control for site grading as well as footing excavation. Major items of work included: 310,000 cubic yards of earth excavation, 90,000 cubic yards of rock excavation, 130, 000 cubic yards of select granular borrow, over 100,000 tons of limestone and recycled aggregate base materials and over 38,000 lineal feet of water main, sanitary and storm sewer piping.
