The 13.69 MW Westside Solar project located in Rochester, Minnesota became fully operational in 2022. Owned by EDF Renewables, the project spans across a 167-acre site. Rochester Public Utility (RPU) purchases the power from EDF in an effort to use 100 percent renewable energy by 2030. Frattalone was hired by EDF Renewables to provide earthwork and solar pile driving for 3,700 piles, each embedded 15 ft deep. Earthwork included mass grading of over more than 487,000 CY of material in 2 months. In addition, the team installed 3,700 array piles, erosion control features, 2,175 LF of permanent roads, site culverts and temporary laydown yards. The team worked closely with EDF during preconstruction activities to optimize the grading with the requirements of the solar racking system.
